Prof. Monique Breteler and Prof. Tobias Böckers received membership certificates of the Leopoldina
On July 13, not less than two of our researchers were ceremoniously inducted as new members of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina:
Prof. Monique Breteler, Director of Population Health Research and head of the Rhineland Study, and Prof. Tobias Böckers, group leader at the DZNE Ulm. This award honours their services to the neurosciences.
The Leopoldina had already appointed our two researchers to the so-called Class III (Medicine) in 2019, but due to the Corona pandemic, the official admission ceremony had to be postponed again and again. In Halle (Saale), Prof. Breteler und Prof. Böckers now received their membership certificate during the evening class III lecture given by cardiologist Prof. Gerd Hasenfuß.
About the Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina: Founded in 1652, the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina, with its approximately 1,600 members from almost all scientific disciplines, is a classic scholarly society. It was named the German National Academy of Sciences in 2008. In this function, it has two special tasks: to represent German science abroad and to advise politicians and the public.
Classes and sections form the scientific working framework of the Leopoldina. All academy members are organized into 28 subject sections according to their research area, which in turn are assigned to four classes. This class association, introduced in 2009, promotes interdisciplinary discussion and the participation of members in the Academy's work.
