Working at the DZNE
Working together, against neurodegenerative diseases
"Neurodegenerative diseases" is a collective term for a number of different diseases that affect nerve cells in the brain, such as Parkinson's, ALS and various dementia diseases. The causes of such diseases are still largely unknown. At the DZNE, our scientists are searching for ways to improve the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
We are convinced that our combined efforts will lead to effective therapies – and, thereby, to ways of improving the quality of life for patients and their family members.
We all share this goal, and all of us are proud to be addressing an important issue for society. All of us are proud to be helping to bring about positive changes for dementia patients – for 1.7 million people in Germany and many more throughout the world.
We offer you exiting tasks in a unique research organization – become part of our team!
We make a difference
If you want to do something meaningful, the DZNE offers you a great opportunity. At the DZNE, you can be a scientist working for a better understanding of disease mechanisms. Or you can work in an administrative area, helping to ensure that research projects have all the resources they need. At the DZNE, we're all working together on one of society's growing problems.
We live diversity
At the DZNE, people from a total of over 60 different countries are doing exciting work in challenging areas. We believe that internationality and diversity play a key role in successful, innovative research. Where diversity is encouraged, different perspectives can co-exist – and bring forth innovative research approaches. We support our diversity through a wide range of different measures, such as language courses and a "Welcome Office" service that assists our international colleagues upon their arrival in Germany (orientation, formalities, etc.). In 2020, the DZNE joined the “Charta der Vielfalt”, and it continues to advocate prejudice-free workplaces that offer all workers a climate of respect.
We offer job security & and a family-friendly working environment
Our salary scales and social benefits are oriented to the collective agreement for the German civil service. In addition to your regular salary, we provide an annual special payment, and capital accumulation benefits (VBL) that contribute to your future retirement income.
Also, we support you in balancing your professional responsibilities/goals with your private life, and we have been certified in this area, via a "work and family" audit, since 2018. For example, in addition to enjoying flexible working hours and telework options, parents at our Bonn and Tübingen sites have access to "parent-child" rooms when their daytime childcare suddenly becomes unavailable.
