New Orleans / Bonn, June, 10th, 2013. Prof. Pierluigi Nicotera, was invited to give the “Chancellor‘s Award Lecture in Neuroscience 2013” by the Louisiana State University Health Science Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans on the 24th May 2013, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the understanding of cell survival signaling in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Moreover, he received the honor in recognition for his leadership in the establishment and development of the DZNE. Nicotera is Scientific Director and Chairman of the Executive Board at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE).
In New Orleans, Prof. Nicotera also sealed an agreement between the DZNE, the LSUHSC and the LSUHSC Neuroscience Center of Excellence for a joint post-doctoral training program. The program aims to foster scientific excellence by training young scientists who have shown a high potential for outstanding scientific achievements, are highly motivated to learn new techniques and methods, and wish to dedicate their research to the elucidation of diseases of the nervous system. The training program will have a particular focus on Alzheimer’s disease.
