A new home in Dresden

New building offers best conditions for research

Dresden/Germany, November, 16th, 2018. Today, the DZNE’s new building in Dresden was officially inaugurated by the Saxon Finance Minister, Dr. Matthias Haß, the Rector of the Technische Universität (TU) Dresden, Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen, and the Chairman of the DZNE’s Executive Board, Prof. Pierluigi Nicotera.

The DZNE site in Dresden currently has around 60 staff members. They were previously spread over two different buildings and are now located under one single roof. Science at the DZNE Dresden comprises a variety of areas: Focus in fundamental research is on neuroplasticity, stem cells and disease modelling. In clinical research, emphasize is on early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases and on strategies for early intervention.

The construction costs of the state-of-the art building, which amount to approx. 42 million euros, are funded by the European Regional Development Fund and co-financed by the German Federal State of Saxony.

Besides hosting the DZNE, the new premises also accommodates “B CUBE – Center for Molecular Bioengineering” of the TU Dresden.
