Clinical research at the Rostock/Greifswald site

Clinical research at the DZNE Rostock/Greifswald focuses on the transfer of new diagnostic and intervention concepts from methodological development via experimental settings to routine care:

  • Improvement of diagnostics of dementia diseases by means of imaging, biomarker research, and brain tissue investigations
  • Development and improvement of new prevention and therapy concepts
  • Development and application of participatory research methods to involve patients and their relatives in the planning, execution and implementation of research projects and their results
  • Development of systems to improve daily living skills in order to enhance the quality of life of people with dementia and their relatives
  • Characterisation and treatment of non-motor disorders in movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, and other predominantly motor neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Investigations of cognitive disorders by combining learning and memory tests with functional and innovative morphological imaging techniques
  • Cross-correlation of cognitive reserve and motor disease progression and vice versa
  • Investigation of cognition and behavior of ALS patients
  • Longitudinal studies of prodromal stages of neurodegenerative diseases and predictive ability of conversion
  • Combined longitudinal studies (clinical, (molecular) imaging, biomarkers, post mortem analyses) to evaluate dynamic changes of structural and functional networks
  • Development of novel therapeutic concepts for neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. iPSZ models, THS, ferroptosis).
  • Development and testing of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) methods to support diagnostics and care.
