Maria Cardona Consults European Working Groups for European Project

On December 11, 2024, as part of the PANEUCARE project, Maria Cardona, with the support of Alzheimer Europe, led two important consultations in Brussels with members of the European Working Group of People with Dementia and the European Dementia Carers Working Group. These sessions brought together ten persons living with dementia and thirteen carers from various European countries to share their unique perspectives and lived experiences.

Discussions centred on critical aspects of dementia care, such as access to healthcare services, quality of care, participation in decision-making, and research priorities. Participants highlighted disparities in care systems across Europe, the importance of timely diagnoses, the need for more personalized and coordinated person-centred care approaches, and highlighted that research participation is both empowering and a critical area for further focus. The insights gathered will serve as a foundation for PANEUCARE’s efforts to tackle these challenges and promote equitable dementia care across the continent.

By actively involving those most affected by dementia, these consultations reaffirm PANEUCARE’s commitment to inclusivity and collaboration in shaping the future of dementia care.
