Information for study participants
Neurodegenerative diseases are chronic diseases of the brain in which there are progressive disturbances of certain brain functions. In Alzheimer's disease or frontotemporal dementias, for example, memory or language are affected. In Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or ataxias, there are mainly motor problems. Clinical research at DZNE aims to develop effective therapies against these diseases. To achieve this, not only treatment studies in humans are necessary. Rather, diagnostic procedures must also be improved. Only in this way can diseases be detected earlier and patients better classified into subgroups so that they receive treatment that is tailored to their needs.
To achieve this, DZNE not only conducts local studies at its individual sites. Due to its organizational structure, it is possible for test persons to be examined in so-called multicenter studies at all participating DZNE sites, naturally according to uniform standards. In this, DZNE cooperates with the local university hospitals.
