The SoCA-Dem theory offers a sound theoretical foundation for empirical research and can also be used as an orientation framework in health and care practice. In this project, two German guidelines – the DEGAM guideline for general practitioners ‘Pflegende Angehörige von Erwachsenen’ and the ‘Qualitätsrahmen für Beratung in der Pflege’ of the Zentrum für Qualität in der Pflege (ZQP) – were analysed with the aim to explore whether and how the core concepts of SoCA-Dem theory were addressed in these guidelines. Most of the concepts that influence stability were acknowledged in both guidelines. While the SoCA-Dem theory illustrates the dynamic interplay of the concepts, this remains rather unclear in the guidelines. The SoCA-Dem theory can be linked to existing guidelines in the German health care practice and in the future it may be supportive to overcome the stress/burden-oriented view of care and to foster a more diverse understanding of home-based care and care arrangements.
